called Zaisan Hill. Its an important monument to the Mongolians and memorializes Russia's freeing Mongolia from Chinese occupation.
Lenin hasn't been defaced here so his head holds a place of honor in the stonework.
The mighty Russian military has a place in the hearts of Mongolians.
This is one of the many murals depicting the Mongolian down trodden people being saved by the Russians.
On another cold and windy day in May we returned to Zaisan Hill with another senior couple who hadn't been there before and found a man and his eagle just waiting for people to climb the steps and take a photo with his eagle. So I paid my money and got to hold the bird.
That eagle was as heavy as a Thanksgiving turkey, a twenty pounder at least and his owner wanted me to lift my arm up and down so the eagle would spread his wings.
It took both arms to lift that bird, but isn't he spectacular!
Take off!!!!
And finally, the bird shows his true self. He is the Great Spirit Eagle and I got to hold him for a brief moment. Lucky me!
